📍CALGARY TO INCHEON
Air Canada, November 17
Process I took to find the air fare
Looking for a flight going to Incheon wasn't that hard for me because it was all straight forward. To be sure, I used Air Canada's direct website to find accurate air fare. I searched up YYC to ICN. The majority of flights that are available were all connecting flights to Vancouver, which doesn't bother us that much, than connecting flight to the US. We chose the lowest fare, which was $802.41 with tax.
Base fare/taxes
Base fare per person: 595.00 CAD Goods and Services Tax Canada: 1.50 CAD
Carrier surcharges: 150.00 CAD Air improvement fee: 30.00 CAD
Air Travellers Security Charge: 25.91 CAD
Total fare per person: 802.41 CAD
Cancellation Policy
Since I booked it online, I need to cancel it through online as well. However, the fare that I chose is non-refundable being it on Economy class. Negative side of an Economy Basic Fare is that, it does not allow for flight changes or cancellations, and you will not receive a credit if you are not able to travel.
Analysis: Reasonable? Realistic? Best Available rate?
Yes. I believe that the price is reasonable. I noticed that mostly flights going to southeast Asian countries from Canada cost higher. A base fare of 595.00 CAD is I think realistic for the air fare, especially flying with Air Canada. I select this route because other than I do not have any other choice, I know the reputation of Air Canada holds, so it is better to book with them.
📍INCHEON TO HANEDA
Asiana Airlines, November 27
Process I took to find the air fare
When I searched flight going to Tokyo from Incheon, there were a lot of options that popped up in Kayak.com, sky scanner, etc. However, I chose to book directly from Asiana Airlines because I think that direct website is much easier to navigate compared to other online tour operator. Also, it was easier for me to see the cancellation policies through direct booking.
My flight will be on November 27, 2021 at 9:25 PM to 11:25 PM. Since, we're on a budget, we booked in economy class because 2-hr flight won't be that much of a pain.
Base Fare/Taxes
Base fare per person: KRW 210,000 (231.00 CAD)
Tax/Charges: KRW 28,000 (30.80 CAD)
Total: 231.00 CAD + 30.80 CAD
Total fare per person: 261.80 CAD
Cancellation Policy
If I cancel 91 days before my flight on November 27, I am able to get a full refund. As the number of days lessens before my flight, there are penalties along with that. For example, if I cancelled my booking 10 days before my departure, they would deduct my refund of KRW 90,000.
Since, my flight is outbound, changes are permitted but there are charges comes along with it. (KRW 70,000 = 77 CAD)
Analysis: Reasonable? Realistic? Best Available rate?
I believe that the price is reasonable. I just think that this route is like going to Vancouver to Calgary, with the same price range. It is actually better because you were travelling in a different country, although they just lies beside each other. Looking at other air fare and comparing it with Asiana Airlines, I think that the price is realistic, another benefit of this is I booked it directly from the website making me feel secured in terms of fare conditions and cancellations.
📍HANEDA TO BANGKOK
Thai Airways, December 11
Process I took to find the air fare
Same goes with my other flights, I booked this flight directly from Thai Airways' website going from Tokyo to Bangkok. As I have stated, there were a lot of suggestion when I searched this particular flight. The flight will depart on December 11 at 10:35 AM, which I prefer so we will arrive in Bangkok in the afternoon, so we could have plenty of time to rest. Most of the flights were direct, so we didn't need to overthink much about that. This flight is in Economy class, as well. It is also nice to have a price break down that specific with Thai Airways.
Base Fare/Taxes
Base fare per person: JPY 35,300 (430.66 CAD)
Total taxes: 3,900 JPY (47.58 CAD)
Total fare per person: 430.66 + 47.58
Total fare per person: 478.24 CAD
Cancellation Policy
Changes is allowed anytime, however there's a fee of USD 75.00 (95.24 CAD) for reissue.
Cancellation is allowed anytime, there is also a fee of USD 100.00 (126.98 CAD) for cancel/refund.
If the passenger didn't show up on the departure date, there would be a charge of USD 150.00 (190.48 CAD)
Analysis: Reasonable? Realistic? Best Available Rate?
I believe that the price is realistic because I have searched few airlines that offer the same route and they are pretty much in the same price range. As much as I don't want think that the price is not reasonable for this route (JPY to BKK), I have read very good reviews about Thai Airlines, that says the chairs are comfortable by having more leg room even if it is only economy class. My number one criteria other than the pricing when choosing an airline is the comfort.
📍 BANGKOK TO CALGARY
EVA Air, December 16
Process I took to find the air fare
Finding the air fare going back to Calgary was a bit difficult because there are a lot of offers the popped up. As much as possible, I want to stick with booking our flight direct website. After all the browsing, I ended up booking with EVA Air because it is one of the most affordable. Also, I am trying to find a direct flight to Calgary, however it was still a challenge. I realized that connecting flight wouldn't be that hard.
Base Fare/Taxes
Base fare per person: THB 35, 310 converted to CAD is 1365.53.
Taxes were listed, this include:
- Airline Fuel Surcharge (YQAC) - Thailand Passenger Service Charge (TSLA)
- E7AP - International Departure Fees (G8DP)
Overall total taxes, fees, and charges: THB 750 = 31.90 CAD
Total fare per person: 1532.58 CAD
Although, there is a currency converter from the website, I chose the current currency, that is why the price is slightly different.
Cancellation Policy
I could request for refunds anytime, but Eva Air would charge me THB 3500 (148.75 CAD).
If I do not show up with my departure date 'No show', Eva Air would also charge me THB 3500 (148.75 CAD).
I could request for changes anytime, but Eva Air would charge me THB 1700 (72.75 CAD).
Analysis: Reasonable? Realistic? Best Available Rate?
I think that the Air fare for this flight is not reasonable at all. Surprisingly, I tried searching more flights from Bangkok to Calgary and I found a flight in Air Canada that cost half the price of this flight. It was only 661. 19 CAD per person, in total for two person with tax is 1,322.38 CAD, which was already the price of per person in Eva Air. I am sure that I only did one-way flight, it is not even the best available rate and it still cost 1532.28 CAD. I would understand if it is a direct flight to Calgary, or if it is in business class, but no. My mistake here is that I should have searched even more and I didn't rush the process of booking my flight. However, applying the cancellation policy, I could still cancel my flight.
